Guest review by Ethan “Chocolate Fever”

Today I have a special guest reviewer – Ethan (age 8)! This is Ethan’s second review on my blog check out his other review HERE.

Chocolate Fever

by Robert Kimmel Smith

Published by Puffin Books originally published in 1972

96 Pages – Ages 6+

Henry likes to eat chocolate and puts it on everything. One day he feels weird. Henry has brown spots on his skin and goes to the doctors to see what the brown dots are.  But what are they?  I like when Henry’s spots get bigger and bigger and he or his doctors don’t know why.  I like when the doctors chase Henry too!  The lessons Henry learned are about being unique, embarrassed, and being greedy. This book is for all ages. I recommend 4 out of 5 Book Worms.

Thanks Ethan for the great review! I don’t think I’ll be eating any chocolate for a while 😮 ! If anyone knows of any kids that would like to do a guest review on my site, please let me know – you can contact me at !

  1. Great job, Ethan! I remember this book was really popular when I was growing up. Somehow, I never read it! I’ll have to rectify that. Maybe a read aloud. I think my kids would like it.

  2. Thanks for a great review, Ethan! Erik, I love that you have kid guest reviewers! So great to see kids interested in reading and writing 🙂

  3. Haha, this review took me down memory lane! I definitely remember reading it when I was about 8 years old (I won’t say how long ago that was…). Thank you, Ethan, for the review. And thank you, Erik, for having Ethan as your guest review — what a great idea!

  4. Sounds like a fun one! However, when I read books that mention food at bedtime, my kids start wanting snacks. Maybe good for an afternoon read.

  5. I like chocolate. Perhaps I should read this before Christmas, so I don’t eat too much. Thanks Ethan and Erik.

  6. Thank you Ethan. Nice review. Sounds like a fun story. Erik, great that you invite other guests to your blog.

  7. Ethan’s dad got him this book because 1. he remembered this book when he was a kid (and it was great for ‘reading aloud’) and 2. Ethan loves to put Chunky Blue Cheese dressing on all his food.
When Ethan first received this book, over the original title was a big post-it note that said “Chunky Blue Cheese Dressing Fever”
Great job with the review, Ethan, and hopefully we can share some more of these ‘old classics.’ (Goodness, I’m getting so old!)

  8. This one is really popular in my library. I am glad that you liked it. You might look at Catling’s The Chocolate Touch as well!
