First Brussel Sprouts –
Last week I read a post about a brussel sprout recipe on Emily Smith Pearce’s blog (see the post HERE). My mom had just made brussel sprouts the week before and they were pretty good so I told Ms. Smith Pearce we were going to try the recipe on her blog. Well, we did! I helped my mom make them. We made them as part of Sunday dinner. The ingredients are olive oil, garlic, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper … and brussel sprouts. You fry them in a cast iron pan then put it in the oven at 450F until they are brown. Everyone LOVED them (even people who usually don’t like brussel sprouts)!
Next Spiders –
I read a post about spidergrams on Catherine Johnson’s blog (see the post HERE). I didn’t know what a spidergram was or how it to helps you write and Ms. Johnson explained it to me and asked if I would post mine on my blog…well here it is! (Oh, and don’t worry Ms. Johnson, I am still planning on making the Yorkshire pudding too 😉 )
This is the (sort of) poem I made from it.
“The Great Life” by Erik
The mountains are as pointy as the blades of grass, which are as soft as the flowers.
The rocks are hard and full of minerals.
The forest is full of animals and hiking hikers.
People own or rent cabins by the water where the amphibians roam.
The furry mammal sinks its teeth in to the reptile’s scales.
Life in the mountains is a good one (unless you are the reptile).
Ms. Johnson said it’s neat if you make the poem so you put the words together randomly, but that was kind of hard for me. What do you think of the one I made?
Now 12×12 –
For those of you who don’t know, I am trying to do Julie Hedlund’s 12×12 Challenge. It is a challenge to write 12 picture book drafts in 12 months in 2012. You can click on the 12×12 banner on the right side bar or the one above to learn more about it. I asked Ms. Hedlund if I could participate even though I didn’t think I could do all 12 but I wanted to try to do at least one and she said it was OK to do what I could. Here is what I did this month.
I couldn’t decide which PiBoIdMo idea to work on. It was hard to think which idea may be really good. I chose to work on idea #5 . The note in my idea note-book was “kid lives in a bookstore – can swim in books and make book angels”. Here is the pictures I drew in my idea book.
I wrote down some more notes about the story. I think the kid may live in a magical book store where he/she could really swim in books or make castles out of the books OR the kid could just be dreaming about it and then wake up and go to the library and find all the stuff he/she was dreaming about. I’m not even sure if the kid is a boy or a girl yet. I kind of like the magical book store idea but I also like the idea of the kid waking up from a dream and going to the library. I’ll keep working on it and let you know next month how it is going.
You can help me decide! Should the main character be a Boy or a Girl???
ONE LAST REALLY IMPORTANT THING!!
My little sister Josie started a blog of her own 🙂 It is called “Animals and Art”. You can click HERE to go to it or click on the Hello Kitty Ninja on my right side bar or below! Please check it out! 🙂
