This week’s quote was sent to me by children’s book author Darlene Foster. Ms. Foster has written the “Amanda in…” series. You can see my review of the action-packed and exciting “Amanda in Arabia: The Perfume Flask” HERE. Today’s quote is from Maya Angelou. Maya Angelou is an American poet and speaker. I think it’s cool that she has also been on Sesame Street!!!
“Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him.”
~ Maya Angelou

I really like this quote, Erik. It’s similar to what I told parents all the time when I was teaching. It matters less what kids read than that they read, and they’re going to read what appeals to them. You can’t force your own judgments as to what they should read. Whether it’s comic books, sports magazines, Captain Underpants – it’s just important that kids love reading!
Thank you Ms. Hill! My school’s Reading Specialist also told me that it just matters that kids read! 🙂
Super quote from a fabulous author, Erik. And I so agree with what Susanna said!
Thank you! I also agree with you and Ms. Hill!
It’s one of my favourites, too. 🙂
It’s great, isn’t it? 🙂
Definitely an amazing quote from one of my favorite poets. Thanks for sharing Erik!
I’m glad you liked it! Ms. Angelou is great, right?
Great quote! As a teacher, I always smile when children just can’t stop reading a book or beg to hear another story read aloud. There’s a book for everyone to love and enjoy reading. 🙂
I would like to have you for a teacher because mine gets upset with me for reading too much 😉
Well, I absolutely hate telling children to stop reading when they’re enjoying it so much, but sometimes there’s other great things to learn. 🙂 It’s great that you love reading so much!
I do know that I should be paying attention 😉 I’ve gotten a lot better this year 🙂
Thanks for sharing this wonderful quote Erik and for mentioning me and my books. It is such an apt quote and I so believe that children should be encouraged to read – anything. My grandchildren call me “the book grandma” because I always give them books for gifts.
That’s cool that you are the “Book Grandma”! Your grandkids are lucky 🙂
