You probably know the Biblical story of Jonah and the Whale and why Jonah was swallowed up. BUT, did you ever think about what the whale was thinking? Eileen Spinelli’s book, “Jonah’s Whale” answers that question!
I really liked this clever re-telling of the story Jonah and the Whale. It was interesting to see how Mrs. Spinelli told the story through the eyes of the whale. At one point in the story the whale gets a bit frustrated that he has a man in his belly and wonders “What now?” The illustrations in the book are marvelous and really add to the story. I think the book would make a great read aloud and an awesome bed-time story. I think its cool to see how authors can re-tell existing stories and I think Mrs. Spinelli did a great job with this one!
Five out of Five bookworms for “Jonah’s Whale” !

Hi Erik, this is the first I’ve heard of this book. What an awesome recommendation you just gave, so I shall definitely look for this one. 🙂
You know, I never did think about it from the whale’s POV and now you’ve got me wondering! I’m going to have to find this book 🙂
Another terrific review, Erik. You make the book sounded very interesting, especially when you point out that the book covers the whale’s point of view. Great pictures, and thanks for including the trailer.
Thanks Mr. Davis! I’m glad you like the review!

It is! I’m glad you liked it Ms. Larson!
I love books that look at a story from an unexpected angle. Thank you, Erik! (And that book trailer was fantastic. I was fascinated by wondering how they made the lightning!)
It is an awesome book and I agree, the trailer is really cool and so is the lightning, Ms. Stilborn!
Love the trailer, and I, too, am hooked by the idea of the Whale’s point of view. Sounds like an excellent recommendation.
It. Is. AWESOME!! I think you’d like it Miss Marple! 🙂
Enjoyed your review Erik. Interesting take on a well-known story. Eileen Spinelli’s name sounded familiar, so I looked at her website. There was a book in particular I recognized I had thought about for a theme I am doing. Wow, she is busy publishing andwhere from 4-6 books a year! Quite remarkable. Great titles. Enjoyed the video!
Thanks Ms. Tilton! I have been to 2 of Ms. Spinelli’s book signings and she is a remarkable person with great books (and a super nice person)! I’m glad you found some books that will help you.
Erik
What a super idea from the whale’s p.o.v. and those turquoise illos are beautiful!
It is an awesome story and, as you state, the illustrations are really beautiful!
Weird. I thought I commented earlier — guess the internet ate my comment!
Erik, I love this book! We sell it in the bookstore. You did a nice job with this review. And Eileen Spinelli is a treasure. She’s one of the most prolific PB authors I know. She even writes MG and Chapter Books too.
I enjoyed meeting Mrs. Spinelli (and you 🙂 ) at Chester County Books. I have Mrs. Spinelli’s chapter book “The Dancing Pancake” on my TBR list.
Thanks Ms. Fritz!
