Dustin Cotter was a Sci-Fi/space fan. So you can imagine how happy he was when he found an alien spaceship after an asteroid storm outside his house. Dustin thought he would be famous because he was going to tell the newspapers about the ship. He dreamed of being famous until the alien inside, named Bok, asks him to keep him safe while he repairs his damaged ship. With the help of 2 new friends, Dustin decides to help Bok get back home. Things get more complex when a psycho on a motorcycle stops at nothing to find out what crashed near Dustin’s house!
This was a pretty good story. I like the Sci-Fi in it and that it is supposed to be realistic. Ms. Pickett’s writing style made it believable. Dustin was a good main character. He’s a nice, normal kid who loves astronomy and extraterrestrial life. I like that Bok was 14 in Earth years and that Dustin chose to do the right thing. The plot is well-written and action-packed! I think the cover art was just okay. The book was a very fast read for me and would make a great summer read for kids!
I give this book a space on my book shelf and 4 out of 5 book worms!

This reminds me of that old tv sitcom, A.L.F. 🙂
Huh? Can you tell me about it? 😉
ALF was a show from the 80’s when I was in jr high and high school. The acting was really bad, but it was funny. And clean. This alien from Melmack crashed into the Tanner’s (typical American family) garage and lived with them. They had to hide him, but he got in all sorts of trouble. The puppet was an icon for years. In fact, I heard there’s supposed to be a movie soon. Here’s a picture of ALF. http://bestofthe80s.wordpress.com/2011/06/02/alf/
I kind of like that the book is written in a way that the alien isn’t exploited, but helped. Great read for kids. Nice review.
I like that too. 🙂
Aliens and psychos outside my house? Oh no!!! Great review Erik.
Aliens and psychos and meteorites – Oh my! 😉
I wish something interesting would drop into my yard. Like a cookie or a new toy….
Love and licks,
Cupcake
I’ll fly over your house in a plane and start bombing it with chew-toys (if you are fine with maj – minor damage)! 😉
Thanks for the review Erik – this book was included in our Kid Lit Giveaway Hop last month and I was really curious about it! Now I know more! 🙂
I think you would like it!
Sounds like a fun read. But now I’m curious. What books have NOT rated a space on your bookshelf and what do with them?
It is a fun read. Well, first, there are the 2-1-0 book worm books, and I usually give those to charity or Josie. And SOME picture books go that path too… And I donate some novels with content I dislike. AND – Oh sorry. I got carried away. 😉
This sounds like a fun book. I bet a lot of my students would enjoy this one. Thanks for sharing!
I think your students would like this one too! 😀
Erik, thanks for reviewing my book. I’m so glad you liked it. A review from a kid like yourself means much more to me than a review by an adult, because you’re the audience I’m writing for. Thank you so much. (Please forgive me for not writing sooner. I was camping near Mt. Rushmore in South Dakota and didn’t have a computer available.)
Thank you! I hope you had fun at Mt. Rushmore!
