12×12 Update!

I am trying to do Julie Hedlund’s 12×12 Challenge again this year. It is a challenge to write 12 picture book drafts in 12 months in 2013. You can click on the 12×12 banner on the right side bar or the one above to learn more about it.

In July I worked on my PB idea of a kid visiting different folk tales from around the world. I’ve changed the character from a boy to a boy and a girl and I changed the way they hop from tale to tale because I thought it was getting too confusing in the draft I was working on. I am happy with the story now and will hopefully finish the draft soon.

I also started working on another PB – this one is a funny one based on a real life experience (let’s just say my Dad could have made it onto America’s Funniest Home Videos (if we had a video 😉 )).

Have a nice August everyone! I won’t! I go back to school on the 20th! 😉

The-the-the- the- that’s all folks!

  1. Good luck, buddy. Mom says 12×12 seems more difficult this year for some reason. Your story possibilities sound promising.

    Love and licks,

  2. I like the concept for your books. I’m forty-six and I didn’t start writing until I was forty-three. I wish I had found my love of writing at your age. Good luck with the project.

  3. Good for you working on your draft, and yay for another PB story! Well done! .. I find it strange hearing you are all on summer vacation. Our schools down here have two or three week breaks every three months with a slightly longer one at Christmas time, which is our summer….lol.

  4. Wow – August 20th? Don’t the kids in your town feel like summer is just starting then?

Our schools don’t have air conditioning – and it is still pretty hot to go back to school in August!

  5. Sounds like things are going well, Erik! Awesome job working on your PB goal. I think the one about your dad will be pretty funny. 🙂 Good luck!

I go back to school on the 20th too, but my students come back on the 27th. We don’t have AC at our school- so I can only hope for reasonable weather! No days in the 90s then, please. 🙂 Enjoy the last few weeks of summer vacation!

  6. Why orang-u excited about school? hahahahaha! Congrats on your 12x accomplishments; those ideas sound good to me!

  7. They sound great, Erik. It’s better to have a couple of grest ideas than lots of so so ones (like me)

  8. Thanks for sharing your story ideas, Erik! I always love your stuff.:) August 20th seems so early…we used to start the week after Labor Day…but we had to go until June 30th.:)

  9. Good luck Erik in all you do. I am sure your stories will be wonderful. I think the secret is not to sweat it too much and also let it breathe. A story is always better when revisited. Sorry about school. I must say, I really disliked school. But you always seem to enjoy it so much once you are there, and a new phase of life sweeps you up and occupies you anew.

  10. Boy, school sure has changed. We didn’t go back until after Labor Day in September. August is when summer starts to feel like summer. And it is–or was–the hottest month of the year. Who wants to be in school during all that heat? Of course, we did not have air conditioning.

I like your 12X12 ideas. Starting now, at your age, you will have a Newbery Medal before your 25! ❗

  11. August 20th? Gee whiz that sounds early! My nephews and niece to back on the 20th but they live in Georgia. I didn’t think PA was on the same time schedule 🙂

  12. I’ve been following along with your posts, but haven’t commented a lot this summer. The folk tales story sounds fun. I always love trying a new way to write a story. Good luck with your future drafts this year AND with school!
