The Mystery of the Missing Ming: Cedar Creek Mystery Book Two
by Anne Loader McGee
158 pages – ages 8+
Published by Vendera Publishing on January 2, 2014
Summary – 13 year-old Mallory thought she had her work cut out for her when she solved The Mystery at Marlatt Manor. Now she’s faced with solving the case of a missing Ming vase worth a ton of money that the town’s elderly librarian is accused of stealing years and years ago!ย Mallory knows the librarian is innocent and sets out to prove it. With the help of her friend Kyle and her spunky (don’t call me grandma) grandmother, Aggie, the super-sleuth faces danger, skeptical policemen, and a ghostly war plane to uncover the truth.
What I thought – What I thought was I had the mystery figured out from the beginning – and I was so wrong. ๐ As I read the first part of the book I thought “ho-hum” no-brainer what’s going on here. But, then the story got deeper and deeper and I totally got it wrong! How fun! Ms. McGee wrote a great mystery that kept me guessing. I liked this book (the second in the series) even more than the first. To read my review of the first book in this series, The Mystery at Marlatt Manor, click HERE. Ms. McGee’s writing style is very kid-friendly and it still gives a great adventurous story that kids will love. The book is perfect for young advanced readers looking for a good mystery and a story that’s more involved. The characters are developed really well and you get to know a lot about them in the book’s 158 pages. I love Ms. McGee’s descriptive writing style that really makes the story come to life. As a bonus, there is a section in the back of the book explaining the history of the Ming Dynasty and why a Ming vase would be so valuable.
Five out of five bookworms for this great mystery!

Love and licks,
Cupcake
You got it! ๐ Thanks Cupcake!
You are too competitive with yourself not to make it. You are so close. Guess that means more flashlight book reading at night. ๐ Do you get extra credit for writing and publishing a book?? Enjoyed your review. Sounds like a fast-paced mystery with a lot of surprises. Love that it involves the Ming Dynast.
Sadly my book isn’t an AR book so no I don’t get extra-credit. I liked learning about the Ming Dynasty from the book. Thanks Mrs. Tilton!
As a fourth grade teacher, you never cease to amaze me with how many AR points you manage to gather! The book sounds intriguing and fun.
๐ Accelerated Reader is my Olympics! ๐ The mystery in this book is fun!
Oh my, I like the sound of this book. A great main character and a cool grandmother!! I KNOW you will make the challenge. You are after all, a superkid.
Thanks Ms. Foster! ๐
I have complete faith that you will make it.
As far as the book is concerned, gotta love those surprises!
Thanks Ms. Hoffman! ๐
GO ERIK !!!!!! ๐ ๐ ๐
Thank you! ๐
Your reading level is amazing Erik, cheering you on from the bottom end of the world. Love a good middle grade mystery, he he, thanks for another great review and recommendation.
Those middle grade mystery writers are awesome! ๐ Thank you for your cheers Ms. Grasso!
Erik, I think you can do it! Honestly, I think you’re capable of doing just about ANYthing! ๐ What is a point equivalent to?
And a mystery that has and expert like you duped from the beginning—THAT’s a good mystery! Nice review, Zor ๐
Thank you! ๐ The books I read are worth anywhere from 0.5 points (for picture books) to 40+ points (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is worth 44 points). Each book has a test with 5, 10 or 20 questions. The number of points you get depends on how much the book is worth and how many questions you get right on the test (I hope that makes sense).
This was a good middle grade mystery! ๐
Thanks for explaining that to me, Erik ๐ It makes total sense now! So, did you beat your own record? ๐
Tune in tomorrow to find out! MWAH HA HA HA HAAAAAAaaaaa
You will definitely make it!
I love when I think I have a mystery figured out and I am wrong. It makes the story so exciting. ๐ Sounds like a great book. I will have to add this series to my list. Thanks for sharing.
I really liked being fooled too. That made it fun. ๐
You can make it Erik. If you need more books . . . ๐ Shoot, I have this to review. Point, You!
Thank you Ms. Morris! I am glad you found your way out of my old reviews! ๐
Looking forward to your point total update (paws crossed). ๐ You need to take out that competition….oh wait – that is you, isn’t it? Ummm…nevermind. By the way, it is GREAT when you can’t figure out the mystery right away – taking a note of this book. Thanks!
