Wish me luck! Today is my first day of MIDDLE SCHOOL!!
Now on to my review!
Jesper Jinx
Written and Illustrated by Marko Kitti
150 pages – ages 8+
Published by CreateSpace on April 28, 2014
Jesper Jinx may be one of the unluckiest (or maybe the luckiest?) kids in Puffington Hill, England. Everything he does somehow comes out hilariously messed up. When Jesper accidentally (and literally) bumps into a children’s books author who had rented a nearby house, Jesper makes the author promise to write his real-life stories, as long as he doesn’t share it with anybody else. The author was not true to his word, well, as long as the reader promises not to tell Jesper! He shares 3 short stories – each with a prank that Jesper does. This includes staining the white cat red, and swapping his sister’s favorite drink out for a concoction that is undeniably foul.
This book, all in all, is hilarious. I love that the author is a character that interacts with the reader through notes. That provides a bit of humor right there. Then you add in all of Jesper’s kooky actions and you get a ton of laughs. I like the fact that the reader can be involved in the story, it feels like the author is talking to you. The illustrations remind me of the kind in most of Roald Dahl’s books. I like that touch. It provides a nice feeling that draws you into the story. Jesper is a nice kid who likes to do pranks and practical jokes. It’s not his fault that they normally backfire on him. He’s just a normal kid trying to “break the boredom”. The book was a quick read for me at 150 pages with illustrations, but it is meant for younger kids so the reading level is just right for 8+ or young advanced readers. I am looking forward to reading more of Mr. Kitti’s work.
I give this book 5 out of 5 bookworms!

Erik, it sounds like a funny read although I’m kind of bummed that the author didn’t keep Jesper’s promise. 🙁
Enjoy middle school!
Thank you! 😀
Great review, Erik! Love the idea of author notes in the book. Have a great day at school. 🙂
I really liked that about the book! Thanks!
I’ve read this book and loved it tbut didn’t think until I just read your review about how much I too enjoyed having the author in the book, talking to Jesper. I also like your comparison of the drawings to Roald Dahl.
I wish you a really good day in school. I can’t believe how early school starts these days. I thought it always started right after Labor Day.
We get a week off in September for our County Fair. A lot of families work at the fair so a lot of kids take off school anyway. I think that’s why we start earlier.
I liked how the author interacted in the book. 🙂
That sounds innovative, Erik. And have a great first day at Middle School!
Thanks Ms. Johnson!
Jesper Jinx does sound hilarious! Just the title is hilarious. I hope you have a wonderful first day at Middle School, Erik.
I did have a great day and the book is hilarious! 🙂
Jesper’s jinxy adventures must be pretty exciting. Five bookworms! Have fun in middle school. I haven’t ever made it past 5th grade. Forever stuck in intermediate school with regular forays back to elementary school. I’ll bet you’ll rock that school!!
Thanks Rhythm! I bet you graduated obedience school though! 🙂
with honors! 🙂
Have a pretty good, maybe almost fun but not detention worthy, meet up with friends, great first day of middle school.
No detention = good day 🙂 Thanks!
I’m glad you had a good start to the year. You’re welcome. 🙂
I would like it if the bookcover images linked to the authors’ sites. http://www.jesperjinx.co.uk/the-author.html
Thanks for the suggestion. I used to link the book cover to author site or place to buy the book, but I just started putting all the links at the bottom of the posts – it seemed to take less time for me. Maybe I’ll start putting them with the covers again. Thanks!
I understand if you choose to go with whatever is quicker. It was just a personal preference and good either way. The reviews are what matter.
Sounds like a fun book — pranks — yes, I can see why you enjoyed it so much. 🙂
Have a great day at middle school!!
Thanks Ms. Rattigan!
Sounds like a fun and laugh-out-loud read! I wish you much success today as you start middle school. Based upon what I’ve seen of you, you’ll do great 🙂 I have zero doubts.
Thank you Ms. Lee! 🙂
Great review and best of luck on your new adventure in middle school!
Thank you Mr. Tucker!
The cover illustration does look very Roald Dahl! I hope middle school is fantastic for you! My son loved it and my daughter (7th) does too.
YAY for 7th graders! 🙂 Thank you Ms. Petersen!
I love the author inserting himself in the story! Best of luck in middle school. M-man started 7th grade Monday (at home). You’ll both do great!
YAY (again) for 7th graders! WOOT WOOT! 🙂 Thanks Mrs. Isenhoff!
Bet you had a great day!
Yes I did! 🙂
I hope middle school was a blast, E. And that nothing was jinxed!
Love and licks,
Cupcake
Ha Ha! Nope no jinxes! 🙂
Good luck! You’ll love it and they’ll love you! 🙂
Thanks Ms. Hill!
Loved the review! And may middle school rock for you 🙂
Thank you Ms. Brown! 🙂
Best of luck at school, Erik. I hope you had a great first day.
Thank you Mr. Eveleigh! I did! 🙂
I’m sure you’ll win the day, week, month and year at middle school! Great review, SuperMiddleSchooler! Ha!
It is I SMS – SuperMiddleSchooler – I am here to fix your dangling participles, solve for Y and conjugate your verbs!
I’m sooo glad you enjoyed Jesper’s antics! Have (prank-free) fun in middle school 😉
Thank you for taking the time to comment here Mr. Kitti! I enjoyed your book very much!
Oh, you will TOtally be OK in middle school, Erik! 😀 😀 😀 You’ve got everything in the world going for you. Don’t ever doubt or forget that! 😀 oxox
Thank you! It is a bit different. I think I am getting the hang of the locker now and I haven’t been stuffed in one yet by a senior- so that’s good. 😉
Yeah, I’m thinkin’ if that hasn’t happened, at least on your first day, things are lookin’ good 😀
Sorry to say on your first day of school, but you already know I. Beat. You. To. Jesper. Woo-hoo! I beat Erik the Great! Okay enough of that shameless prancing. Have a great year in school. Knock the bullies out with your fiction overloaded backpack. 🙂
You did? Hmm, wait here – must google…
…
Hey you did beat me! :/
How did I miss that one. Okay – score one for you but I’ll get you next time my pretty and your little dog too!
First, I believe you were enjoying the great outdoors instead of here reviewing books. Second, it would be “and your big cat too!”
Yep, I bet my cat can beat your dog. 😀
I hope your first day of Middle School is now behind you and that you are sailing on through. Sounds like a very funny book, and the thing is ~ what do you expect of you tell an author a story?
My 12 year old girl loves reading books with jokes or pranks on them – always a hit with young people, I think.
