Susanna Leonard Hill has a feature on her blog called Perfect Picture Book Friday. It is a list of “perfect” picture books recommended by all sorts of people. I chose this book because it is a really sweet book about noticing your blessings.

20 pages (board book) – ages 2+

Theme/Topic- Blessings

Genre- Realistic Fiction

Opening and Synopsis- Opening: “ONE family – loves you sweet.

TWO hands. TWO feet.

Synopsis: Publisher’s description- “Children count along from 1 to 10, following the sweet rhyming text by beloved author Eileen Spinelli and the cute and cuddly illustrations by Lee Holland. Along with counting, this padded cover board book teaches children to see the blessings in life.”

What I Thought- This is a really sweet board book. It highlights 10 blessings that everyone probably has, and then points out that you probably have more, and cannot count them all. Mrs. Spinelli has written a great story in poetry that makes you smile while reading it. It is a nice way to teach counting to ten too. Mr. Holland has a nice, warm illustrations that go perfectly with the book. Paired together, this is the perfect bedtime story. I enjoyed this board book tremendously.

Activities and Resources-

Crayola has a great Count Your Blessings craft that kids and adults can do together. Click HERE to go to it.

The Catching fireflies blog has a great list of activities around the idea of thankfulness, go HERE! Some of the crafts are Thanksgiving themed but I particularly think that the heart-sun thing with the clothespins is a great idea, and can be used year round.

Written by Eileen Spinelli
Illustrated by Elina Ellis
20 pages (board book) – ages 3+

Will be Published by Ideals Childrens Books on April 5, 2016

Synopsis From the publisher “Sometimes, when life gets hectic and schedules get crowded, children may feel a little lost in the shuffle. In this new board book, the animals are all quite occupied. Beaver is busy; squirrel is busy; frog is busy. Mole is digging, bear is fishing, and cat is pouncing. And like many parents, Mama is busy too. But she’s not too busy for a hug!”

What I Thought- This is a meaningful book that shows how common animals are always busy doing things, and ends with the mother having a lot of work and being busy, but still has enough time for her child. Mrs. Spinelli wrote the book in nice rhymes, and it was an enjoyable read. Ms. Ellis’ illustrations are playful, and add another dimension to the story. Another great book from Eileen Spinelli!
