Synopsis- Baby Lincoln was not sure what had come over her. All she knew is that she liked how marvelous the stars looked in her dreams. Baby knew, after dreaming such a wonderful dream, that she must go on a Necessary Journey – where exactly, she is not sure. But it is clear that Baby needs a break from her controlling older sister, Eugenia, and that Baby needs to find herself as well. This may yet be the end of a lifelong relationship…
What I Thought- This is a good book about finding yourself, but also of sisterly love. The two sisters are still sisters, no matter how bossy one can be. Baby leaves because she feels she is missing a part of herself. What I like is that she finds what she needs on the train – it didn’t really matter where she went. Ms. DiCamillo’s writing style has a good way of speaking to kids. The story is pretty quirky, but it is well-suited for the book and its characters. The book is good for beginning readers, as it has an age-specific vocabulary that kids can learn from. This is a nice, quick read, and kids will like reading about who Baby Lincoln meets on her journey. Older kids will love the story development and reading as Baby discovers herself.
I give this book five out of five bookworms!
