Synopsis from Publisher- “When their class tadpoles are big enough, Mr. Stricter tells his students they can keep just one. The class chooses Bruno, the smallest of the bunch. But Bruno doesn’t stay that way for long. Soon, he’s grown into a giant, classroom-wrecking creature: he eats desks, he farts for show-and-tell, and he sneezes slime all over everything! With Mr. Stricter blinded by love for the pet, the students must step up and take matters into their own heroic hands.”

What I Thought- This was a funny book. The story is so absurd that it would make a great read-aloud. One thing I liked was how the illustrations are an old-fashioned style, which leads to a fun contrast.

As the illustrations belie a refined front with a wacky plot. Rissi and Ohora are a great duo, and I hope to see more from them! Another note about something I liked; the teacher looks a bit like me – it’s the subtle stuff that puts the sprinkles on the icing of the cake! 🙂 Kids will giggle at the teacher’s unwavering want for a class pet – actually the teacher and students seem to have switched roles in who is being more responsible! This is a very cute book!

I give this book five out of five bookworms!

  1. This book is so very cute!! Kids and adults will love it!!

  2. So fun! In Mom’s old classroom, her tadpoles became bullfrogs and although she wasn’t afraid of the frogs, she was afraid of the crickets that she had to feed them. Thank goodness the custodian helped her!!

    Love and licks,
